1cupgranulated sugarUse organic sugar for a more natural flavor.
1wholevanilla beanFresh vanilla beans are recommended for the best flavor.
Instructions
Prepare the Vanilla Sugar
Start by measuring 1 cup of granulated sugar and place it in a mixing bowl. This will be the base for your vanilla sugar.
Take the whole vanilla bean and use a sharp knife to carefully slice it down the middle lengthwise. This exposes the tiny seeds inside, which contain the rich vanilla flavor.
Scrape the seeds from the vanilla bean using the back of the knife. Add both the scraped seeds and the empty vanilla pod to the bowl with the sugar.
Using a spoon, mix the sugar thoroughly with the vanilla seeds and pod. This ensures that the flavor is evenly distributed throughout the sugar.
Transfer the mixture into a clean glass jar with a lid. Seal the jar tightly to keep the vanilla sugar fresh.
Let the vanilla sugar sit for at least 24 hours before using. This resting period allows the sugar to absorb the vanilla flavor fully.
Notes
Store the vanilla sugar in a cool, dry place. It can last for several months. You can replenish the sugar by adding more granulated sugar and letting it sit with the vanilla pod.
