Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar Use organic sugar for a more natural flavor.
  • 1 whole vanilla bean Fresh vanilla beans are recommended for the best flavor.

Instructions

Prepare the Vanilla Sugar

  • Start by measuring 1 cup of granulated sugar and place it in a mixing bowl. This will be the base for your vanilla sugar.
  • Take the whole vanilla bean and use a sharp knife to carefully slice it down the middle lengthwise. This exposes the tiny seeds inside, which contain the rich vanilla flavor.
  • Scrape the seeds from the vanilla bean using the back of the knife. Add both the scraped seeds and the empty vanilla pod to the bowl with the sugar.
  • Using a spoon, mix the sugar thoroughly with the vanilla seeds and pod. This ensures that the flavor is evenly distributed throughout the sugar.
  • Transfer the mixture into a clean glass jar with a lid. Seal the jar tightly to keep the vanilla sugar fresh.
  • Let the vanilla sugar sit for at least 24 hours before using. This resting period allows the sugar to absorb the vanilla flavor fully.

Notes

Store the vanilla sugar in a cool, dry place. It can last for several months. You can replenish the sugar by adding more granulated sugar and letting it sit with the vanilla pod.
