Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 3 medium ripe bananas mashed
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 large egg beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda sifted
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour sifted

Optional Add-ins

  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips optional

Instructions

Prepare the Oven and Pan

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). This ensures that the bread bakes evenly.
  • Grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan with butter or non-stick spray to prevent sticking.

Mix Wet Ingredients

  • In a large mixing bowl, mash the ripe bananas with a fork until smooth. Ripe bananas provide natural sweetness and moisture.
  • Stir in the melted butter until well combined.
  • Add the beaten egg and vanilla extract, mixing until fully incorporated.

Combine Dry Ingredients

  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, baking soda, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring gently to combine. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay.
  • Fold in the sifted all-purpose flour until just combined.

Add Optional Ingredients

  • If desired, fold in chopped walnuts or chocolate chips for added texture and flavor.

Bake the Bread

  • Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 60-65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Let the banana bread cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For best results, use very ripe bananas with brown spots. You can also freeze overripe bananas for later use.
