Description

Salisbury steak is a nostalgic American classic that combines juicy ground beef patties with savory brown gravy, delivering comfort and flavor in every bite. Ideal for family dinners or entertaining guests, this easy-to-follow recipe transforms simple ingredients into a hearty dish that will impress anyone at your table. Ready in just 40 minutes, it’s perfect for cozy nights or special occasions.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20)
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 medium yellow onion (divided)
  • 1 cup low-sodium beef broth
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp oil for cooking
  • 2 tbsp flour (for gravy)

Instructions

  1. 1. Finely chop half of the onion and set aside. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, chopped onion, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
  2. 2. Shape the mixture into four oval patties about one inch thick.
  3. 3. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sear the patties for about three minutes per side until browned but not fully cooked through.
  4. 4. Remove patties and sauté remaining onions in the same skillet until translucent. Whisk in flour to make a roux, then gradually add beef broth, soy sauce, and Worcestershire sauce until smooth.
  5. 5. Return patties to the skillet, cover, and simmer on low heat for about ten minutes until cooked through.
