Scale
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 packets (4 ½ tsp) active dry yeast
- 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- ¼ cup unsalted butter (melted)
- 1 cup warm milk (110°F)
- 1 large egg
Instructions
- 1. Activate the Yeast: Warm milk until lukewarm (about 110°F). Mix in sugar and sprinkle yeast on top; let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- 2. Mix the Dough: In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, cinnamon, and salt. Create a well in the center, add activated yeast mixture, egg, and melted butter; mix until combined.
- 3. Knead: Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth. Place in an oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled.
- 4. Roll Out: Punch down the dough and roll it into a rectangle about ½ inch thick.
- 5. Fill: Brush with melted butter, sprinkle with cinnamon-sugar mix and chocolate chips if desired. Roll tightly into a log and slice into equal pieces.
- 6. Bake: Place rolls in a greased dish with space between them. Let rise for another 30 minutes while preheating oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
