Description

Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm water (110°F)
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 2 1/2 cups bread flour
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp coarse sea salt (plus more for topping)
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter (melted)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm water and brown sugar. Sprinkle the yeast on top and let sit until foamy (about 5 minutes).
  2. Mix in bread flour and sea salt until combined. Knead on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  3. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled (about 1 hour).
  4. Preheat oven to 450°F. Boil water mixed with baking soda in a large pot.
  5. Punch down risen dough, divide into small pieces, roll into ropes, and shape into pretzels.
  6. Boil each pretzel for about 30 seconds, then transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  7. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with coarse salt. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
