Description

  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup fresh or dried cranberries, chopped
  • Zest of 1 orange

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm milk and sugar until dissolved. Sprinkle yeast on top and let sit for 5 minutes.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Gradually add to the yeast mixture along with softened butter and eggs; mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Knead on a floured surface for about 8 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
  4. Punch down the dough, fold in cranberries and orange zest. Divide into four pieces, roll each into circles layered with melted butter.
  5. Cut stacked circles into quarters; twist pieces to form star shape. Let rest for another 30 minutes.
  6. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25 minutes until golden brown.
