  • 4 medium Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp grated nutmeg
  • 2 tbsp butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1/3 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
  • 1/4 cup dried cranberries or raisins (optional)
  • Water (for baking)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Core the apples, leaving the bottom intact.
  2. In a bowl, mix brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, chopped nuts, and dried fruit.
  3. Stuff each apple's core with the mixture and place them in a baking dish.
  4. Dot the tops of the apples with butter and pour about half an inch of water into the dish to help steam.
  5. Bake for 25-30 minutes until tender but not mushy. Let cool slightly before serving.
